MONDAY'S CHILD IS FAIR OF FACE
by Mother Goose
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child born on the Sabbath Day,
Is fair and wise and good and gay.
Well it's a Tuesday here on the Advent calendar and the animals and I decided to go visit old Mother Goose and according to her Tuesday's child is full of grace...so it led myself, all the animals and the three shepherds to discussing this thing call Grace!
Here is how we organised our talks:
-Meady's Musings: some of the everyday use and meanings of the word 'Grace'
-UCP:Divine Grace
-Books and Films Corner: The 2006 film Amazing Grace!
GRACE
According to the Free Dictionary there are many definitions of 'grace' however seeing that this is an Advent calendar and all we will discuss some of the more applicable definitions to the season. So here they are...
"grace (noun)
4.a. A disposition to be generous or helpful; goodwill.
b. Mercy; clemency.
5. A favor rendered by one who need not do so; indulgence.
6. A temporary immunity or exemption; a reprieve.
8.a. Divine love and protection bestowed freely on people.
b. The state of being protected or sanctified by the favor of God.
c. An excellence or power granted by God.
9. A short prayer of blessing or thanksgiving said before or after a meal."
Well it all sounds so Christmasy already I don't think it needs much explanation from the animals and I does it? To be honest most of the meanings of grace rendered here so made us think of the Dickensian 'A Christmas Carol' really and the grace that was afforded Ebenezer Scrooge on that fateful winter night! So instead of me rattling on tonight here on the calendar let's sit and listen to the story! :)
Oh course it will be told by my mumpet friends by special request that as many animals as possible be represented here! :)
