Studious Saturdays = All Things about the craft of fiction writing. Also we will give you little snippets about how our fantasy fiction novel in progress is going. Sometimes this can be told as a cartoon. We will be doing nanowrimo this year as well.
Also our Advent calendar will be happening this year as usual! Look for an interesting and new format!
Just taking a few moments to share with you some upcoming events/series on Meady's Musings. I know I've been idle in following up with my reincarnation series which has since extended into talks on parallel worlds and things metaphysical as a whole!...but it is my musings and well I have to muse before I write! :) I'm still reading Dr. Michio Kaku's book Parallel Worlds and I'll be sure to follow up with some posts soon! However here is a listing of some posts to come:
- Raw/Semi-raw Yet Again!: I've gone very offtrack in the things I've been eating over the last few mths and I feel a good way to get back on track is by going all cold again literally as eating semi-raw does make me feel so cold! But will do it for the month of Nov a nice sort of body rest, fast and/or cleanse of sorts between the Diwali and Christmas seasons of eating aplenty! Hey luckily I live in the Tropics so it's not that cold! :)
-Reincarnation...Parallel Worlds and All Things Metaphysical For Sure!: I know...I know all my false promises but they will be coming Universe willing for sure!:) I've even opened up a virtual cafe of sorts on Facebook open to some special friends mostly from Intent! :) And out of it might be finally putting together a novel I conceptualised since in 2003! So you realise sometimes you do have to wait on me! :) But hey the Universe is infinite and time is fictional so you are going to get that book out one day publisher willing or not...and for sure many blog posts to come! :)
And in Dec yes...oh yes!... My Advent Calendar: It will be on again and I'll be resurrecting my Books and Films Corner blog again! As I look forward to celebrating Christmas again on all my three blogs and dancing with those Three Wise Men again! :) BOY! Have I missed them! :)
And speaking of much loved friends and Intent...that's the next thing I wanted to speak about...THE BEAUTIFUL SARAH MARIA! :) from my interactions with her on Intent I have to say she truly is a beautiful person both within and out. And I highly recommend that you check out her new book...LOVE YOUR BODY, LOVE YOUR LIFE! :) For sure the beautiful being that she is...she should be able to share with you a thing or two if you need some tips on loving your body and your life!:) Or maybe you have a friend...sister...daughter etc who you think needs to embrace themselves more fully and for that check out Amazon to get the book right here!:

So here I am again amid Diwali festivities trying to keep my Blog Action Day commitment. So here it goes…
My relationship with worrying about the environment started kinda young… looking back at it now…I mean I was reading Time magazine at 11 (takes you back to approx. 1986) and it seems I saw this whole thing about ozone depletion way back then…I was so into the whole ‘Greenhouse Effect’ phenomenon and everything that I took it upon myself to draw my own chart…a scaled up version of the magazine drawing and stick it up on the class bulletin board...looking back at myself now well…:)…ahmmm…but then I never really fit in…of course though as Kermit The Frog said, “It’s not easy being green!”
So I was thinking about Climate Change when it was still mostly termed as Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect…stopped using CFCs in my early teens…worried about my impact on the dwindling water supply and all of that…doing ‘the good thing’ like many others I guess closing the tap to not let the water run while brushing my teeth. I was probably wondering about my ‘Carbon Footprint’ long before it was even termed that! But I’m sure this was not unique to me…there was a whole generation of kids world over being created to worry worry about the environment! Sesame Streeters…Generation Xers…all feel the bludgeoning burden of not being easy to be green!
But like most undergoing development…as an adolescent I guess, I began to rebel…began to think…on my own…not just regurgitating facts and certainly not re-creating charts from Time magazine…in fact can’t tell you the last time I read the magazine…in fact even for this Blog Action Day I’m winging it on my own…not referring to their notes and guidelines…hey I’m not going to join the masses here…I’m not going to just add my voice because…I agreed to blog…but I’m going to question…figure this thing out for myself…after all, us humans were given the gift of independent thought you know…
Of course there are ‘experts’ out there…people who spend more time focusing or ‘uncovering’ certain 'truths' than I…and so I do have to reference them from time to time else it would be ignorant, arrogant and so know it all of me!
But to be honest the more you think about something and get into it the more you wonder about its validity…so really as I got into ‘adulthood’ and now into my 30s…I’ve often wondered- “Should I Be Worrying More About My Carbon Footprint Or In the Existence of Bigfoot?!”….seriously! :) And this is after completing studies in Environmental Engineering in my early to mid twenties and getting more and more ‘officially’ into concepts like ‘sustainable development’. In fact I had a big 30something let’s get over the Global Warming business thing discussion already on my favourite online community Intent…where I called Dave Trager a very smart man! :) And I still think he is…but I guess I’m back to where OK…OK…load me up with the backpack and let’s go…baggage on…again…as I agreed to do this blog albeit over two days…noticeably I never said we should be all nasty with the environment ever…but what’s with everyone in my generation having to be beast of burdens toting the environmental cause and a billion other causes already! Can’t we just be?
I mean the brainy pop physicists also say the universe is expanding as it should and there is also risk of global freezing! Seriously that’s what I’m kinda reading now in Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku:) But hey I understand there is a scientic consensus by the IPCC and for sure there is climate change and although in the end the forces beyond man’s control like Bigfoot coming down after the snow caps melt or who knows the thing that killed the dinosaurs doing us more harm…I have to still be responsible for my own actions and don’t use it as an excuse to nasty up the planet! :) So as I said load the backpack on again already and here I go!
But for sure I will tell you this I was always on that road…the sustainable development belief system one that is…never was I born to be an environmentalist through and through…you should have seen the look on my Biology teacher’s face when I put up my hand one day in class and said when discussing a question…and seriously this stays with me today- the disappointment she felt…and I never got to explain myself…I guess I was seen as a goody two shoes by her…filled with love for nature and birds and the bees…after all I am a Hindu…and we tend to worship nature and I am vegetarian at that! Anyway, the teacher for whatever reason expected better of me when I said “Why bother about the environment anyway!” :)
It was one of those moments…forever stuck in time…a case when if the media was covering the story and I was a famous person…the equivalent of them taking the line and running with it…so next day…if there was press to cover it the headline would read:
“Why bother about the environment anyway!” –this was the exclamation by the student who should have known better in a Biology class today when contemplating the pros and cons of building a paper making plant on a Caribbean island.
You see what we were discussing in the class was the section of a question we normally had to answer for the Caribbean exams in Biology back then…you see they were already asking about Sustainable Development even then…but I was stuck with a bunch of pure environmentalists…purist like no other?! But if you ask them..Well you love the environment right? So like would you be willing to go live by the bank of a river then…and rock in a hammock…play with the animals that come to drink water and eat berries and nuts? And they stare at you blankly…:) However,thing is I feel that maybe us going back to ‘the Golden Age’ but unless society as a whole decides to go that way…we have to live in a world of balance …development…but a sustainable one…
So back in high school Biology class, what I had meant was the option we had looked at wasn’t economically feasible so we could have scrapped the plant anyway…so there wasn’t any point in going further to discuss or analyse what would the environmental impact be…as the plant wouldn’t need to be put up in the first place since it would make no money! It didn’t mean I didn’t care about the Environment in general! If only I could get to go back in time and explain…awww…! :) I did care! :)
But perhaps then it was also me making my way into the profession of Chemical Engineering that I’m now in…but with the bent that it should be done in a genuinely environmentally friendly way and sustainable development be considered upfront…I can wish at least!
But hey here’s where Coke, Bigfoot, Indian farmers committing suicide due to drought, my carbon footprint and even Farmville the rave of a game application on Facebook comes in! Through in the buzz words sustainable development, corporate social responsibilty and social entrepreneurship and voila you are about to see why I had the Coke commercial up!:
You see when Coke did that ad…I don’t think the corporate world was the same place…they knew people liked all this peace and love and honey bees business but they wanted them to buy their Coke so…they sold their Coke by piggy backing on the whole global love and oneness theme so hey….
Coke = peace, love, harmony, global oneness…did I say peace already?
Hey but so does Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and without going into details and risk of offending religious sensibilities and the prayers over on my sister blog UCP…any character or figure head you put up there can be seen as the symbol of hope, peace, love, compassion…the list of loveliness goes on! And for sure it’s what everyone really wants for sure that IS the REAL THING! :)
OK so why not Coke! I say so be it! Of course Coke isn’t perhaps a healthy, wholesome drink but then when you look at other factors that cause death…well…of course Coke is not water…so then Coke started to sell water but then there are those plastic bottles and another plant just to give you something that should in actuality exist in nature in the first place for free! But you see that comes back to the point…we’re not in that Golden Age! We’re not in Paanchvati of the Ramayan or The Garden of Eden!
But really Coke is the real thing…and it is going to be, in a whatever sugar free version, for a very long time, from all signs of it…but if you’re the real thing Coke at least live up to your name nah…so…here is where the Indian farmers and drought and Coke and water supply come in…you see it’s all tied to Climate change because I guess the droughts this year globally so far could be pegged perhaps to Climate change phenomenon…but then Coke…is also tied to several water supply issues too in particular in India so I thought I’d throw all that into the story too…you can easily google up those stories…and Coke’s promise to become water neutral by the end of this year…don’t know the outcome…
Point being is here is my proposed solution to all this environmental baggage business…
Coke do the right thing and be the real thing if you like…so tell people what you’re selling and also try to sell things for people that are good for them at a fair price and they will give you back love…the real thing…
And there you’d have it…sustainable development moving to corporate social responsibility moving to social entrepreneurship…because to me that is the transition and it is already happening…first people were OK with (well people post the dirty Dickensian days at least and in the 'less impoverished and less populated world' where labour is not disposable i.e. India and China not included in these standards):
Sustainable development: You could build the plants once they did not drastically harm the workers, their pets, their neighbours and their pets and then don’t forget about all animals and the waterways, air etc.
Then people started to say no…
Corporate Social Responsibilty: You can’t build the plant if it is going to harm us physically for sure but also you can’t bulid it if we don’t feel happy…provide funding for cultural events, develop the local sports team…we are already inhaling badish fumes, eating bad food, drinking bad stuff…so the least you can do is encourage or help us pay to gather and do healthier things!
But then comes…
Social Entrepreneurship: We want the nice things…that your sales brings…the real thing and all…but you must make the sales by being nice…make nice products…things that don’t harm a fly to create, produce and distribute and when the flies drink them they will achieve nirvana! Make a business out of helping us reach nirvana…care for the old and call it a business…
Now perhaps the next step after that will be we all just really do want to chuck it all in and go live in a hut by a river…but guess what?
We may not be able to do it by then if the rivers are polluted and if we’re still as competitive cause then everyone will fight for who gets the best hut space and the nicest river view! So really it’s not Coke’s fault…it’s yours and yours and yours and mines…the fabulous Gandhian quote-“Be the change you want to see!” comes to mind here!
It’s why I’ll just have a sip of Coke Zero for now thank you! And join the rest of the Generation Xers on Facebook for a word game that promised to save 20 tropical rainforest trees if I made a 10 letter word and Farmville to make believe that I’m growing apple trees with honey bees and snow white turtle doves(I've already requested they add honey bees and snow white turtle doves to the game)…but as a Farmville using friend from Venezuela and I obeserved we really don’t have to face the hot sun and bachacs (ants that bite hard and eat crops) like farmers in the region would have to! And so before I close…I give a thought for those Indian farmers who committed suicide…no matter how bad things are why kill yourself I mean the worse that can happen is you would die anyway?! So sad always to hear of suicide...and really I wish I was there to give them a cold Coke and say doh worry the worse can happen is you will die so don't kill yourself over it...you will die one day anyway! But this really did happen and it is definitely a clear indicator of how hard some people on this planet have it and it’s not going to be solved by clicking a button for a cause on Facebook!
Solutions welcome…no wonder the Nobel Committee awarded to Obama! They too decided to simply sing…the Coke song! Because…all they can do is hope! :)
And Coke those Indian farmers really need the water! So please let them have it or at least leave some in the reservoirs for them..so then they can be alive and you can sell them Coke later!
Do you ever wonder about it? Followers of Meady's Musings will know yes I do wonder about it...as can be referenced here and here And now the time has finally come to continue my wonderment in depth and I hope to have you join me on this quest...
I have had over the past few years had this reoccurring dream (not often though about a couple times) where I live in this house with my mother...she is the same physical mother I have now and at the core...the very essence she is the same being...same soul I figure...and that shines out...it is what really marks her for me...but in the dream...she is also different. She even looks slightly different physically...like how one's looks change if they change their lifestyle and sense of style etc. The mother in the dream also has slightly different body language etc based on her different life experiences perhaps.
I'm also different in the same way in the dream as I just described about my mother...and although seriously at some deep core level I know the love and attachment between us is the same as in my normal, real, waking life...we have a slightly different relationship on the surface in this dream world...because we are a bit different and so the dynamic is a bit different.
The most interesting thing about this dream is the house and in how much detail I can picture and feel it...it's kinda in a different dimension in a way too...it seems not to be in this world...or not of this world in some ways...like suspended somewhere isolated from everything else like I don't get the sense that there is a real outdoors that we can go out into or like a street out the front...also an odd feeling that there is neither a night or day in this place just one dim twilight? Yet still the oddest thing is out at the front I get a hint in the dream don't ask me how I know this or perhaps you can say it is mumbo jumbo madness of the dream state except this dream is so deep as in it weighs on my emotions heavily and drainingly...the kind where you wake up disturbed and it stays with you...so don't think it is a random mumbo jumbo dream. Well in the dream I just get the idea that out front the house if there were streets etc. in the first place it would open out to San Francisco but at the back of the house I know for sure it is a beach front...I see the sand through the windows and hear the ocean...and some how it doesn't seem to be a cold beach but a warm beach...at least Southern California...not Northern...so how can this be? But in the quaintess of the dream you get the feeling that yes the back doors would open to a beach but the front of the house no...as if the front and back doors of the house open to two different locations...And in the house I can still recall such details although the last time I had this dream was almost 6 months ago but I can still tell you how the rooms felt how they were shaped...there is this very huge kitchen that very little cooking goes on in...with long brightly lit stretches...the cooking being little is very much in contrast to my real life mother's habits...but yet in the dream that same mother although cooks not as often has just made us a batch of something to snack on...and it seems later on we might be expecting guests...these guests seem to be very important and related to her career...I think she is about to get a promotion. Also in the dream I for sure know I'm the only child and my mother and I are inseparable...in the real world I have two brothers and although am close with my mother I'm so certainly not the only child...and my mum so certainly not the career woman type...
Now all of this even to recall now is very draining for me...it is why I've taken so long to come back on here and post although I had promised you readers to get back on with this parallel worlds business sooner...but I was doing this post more than 2 weeks ago and it was just too spooky to continue it back then...I felt myself seeing that place and I had to stop! Serious! Even now I feel a bit weirdy but I've come back biting my lips to carry out the promised task...
The universe sure works in mysterious ways though...Since starting this post more than 2 weeks or so ago and leaving it stagnant I've also stumbled on the works of Dr. Michio Kaku...I was drawn into this Parallel Worlds thing more by my own real life experiences and I've seen the TV series Sliders (so OK some might say that is why in my dream the house is in San Franciso but it could just be too cause I've visited there a couple times or it could really be where the portal exists! :) )...and even before I've just for years and years believed that for sure Parallel Worlds and Universes existed but had never heard of Dr. Kaku although had about a month or two ago stumbled on this NOVA series TV show that so happened to be running on PBS just the day after I stumbled on it on the station's website and so was able to view it...so on this show I had learned about Shrodinger and his cat and Hugh Everett but not Dr. Kaku...but as I had left this post stagnant I stumbled upon Dr. Kaku having a talk with Deepak Uncle on Intent! :) right... here! So now I'm waiting for my delivery from Amazon of these two books...can't wait to talk about them on here!
So now I feel more confident about my musings...thinkings...and ramblings...cause well known Physicists...well they I can use to verify that I'm not just a crazy person...there are facts on this too! I'm no Physicist however but for sure I believe in as much as we are all allowed our own beliefs even if they can't be proven...I believe especially for each big life decision we make I believe in this life we go on with the one that was made of course and can never get the other reality back...but out there somewhere that reality exists...we can't get to go into it though and so really we shouldn't waste must time hankering over it...but knowing this helps us explain the weirdness we sometimes feel and perhaps in some small way makes us not take things so seriously too...for even though we can't have x reality and very much have to live y's one instead...hey somewhere out there x lives on...and perhaps a certain element of us is connected to it somewhere out there in the universal fluid...cause it is a different world's version of us no? So we must somehow be connected in some limited way to our billion versions of ourselves out there? To me it is here a drawing might help...but I don't have the time to draw tonight...perhaps I'll draw it some time soon as we continue on this journey though...
I know I must have just served to confuse readers in all billion worlds I exist in! :) Or maybe I should have more faith in my reader's ability to be open to my madness! :) But I say if there are these parallel worlds and universes well surely too if we are just different elements of ourselves in these worlds...well on some small subtle level we must all be connected no? So really even though me must hammer down and live in this world and carry on with things...we are really never 100% only of this world...at some level all the worlds must communicate with one another...I'm not sure yet how this happens or what it means...and of course too I have no proof...but perhaps it is a bit of Lewis Carroll's Through The Looking Glass...
It's is why I shared my dream with you because I believe the profound feeling I have for it...well it could be a way of communicating a parallel life or universe in which I live with my mum...I shared it with my mum and she was most intrigued...felt it could be true...totally bought into it with all smiles!:) Amazing! And she has never seen Sliders as far as I know so there! It couldn't have influenced her! :)

Hey just a quick note to let my readers know I'm finally back...just a few days back from my vacation I got a bad flu not sure if swine but bad enough...so only now got my things sufficiently in order at home and in work enough to be able to slowly thread out into the blogosphere! I blogged last night on my sister blog UCP-Universal Collective Prayer and introduced my new logo for that blog.
I will be heading into those great Metaphysics topics that I'm longing to share and discuss further with you all soon have no fear! And of course reincarnation as promised! Hopefully by tomorrow a new topic will be out and about! :)

Just a brief note to let my followers know that I'm off on a short vacation...know on the whole I've not been blogging often and it is for sure not as often as I would like...as in there is quite a bit I'd like to put forward here but only when I have enough time to hone my thoughts, ideas and feelings...meditate on them...well muse on them before I type...On my vacation as I mentioned here when I spoke about my camera I hope to visit a certain cavernous place and so you can look forward to pics of that hopefully if all goes well when I get back. As mentioned then on the whole you can expect to see lots more from me picture taking wise after I get that camera and perhaps video capturing wise as well...

As you all know I was very excited about volunteering at the Red Earth Eco-Arts Festival last Sat 30 May 2009. It was in commemoration of World Environment Day which is today- Fri 5 June 2009...the idea being to have it the weekend before the day itself. A co-worker of mine...asked me what was all this thing he was seeing about me and Red Earth now...he thought it was Green earth...reminded me of two things in my musing mind simulataneously:
God's Green Earth
and of the title of one of my fav novels by Vickram Chandra
Red Earth and Pouring Rain- a cool book that makes me seriously appreciate the Indian monkey or not! :)
To be honest though this muser can't say for certain where the terms came from I'm thinking God's Green Earth perhaps biblical in origin or Christian like at least? And well seems Red Earth might be what native, aboriginal or first peoples world over might call the soil. I can say for certain there is another Eco Arts type festival of the same name in the US that promotes Native American Culture that just like most first people's culture world over lives as if the earth is part of their very essence as humans. And they are kicking off their celebs today! Check them out here...wish was attending that one too looks super cool!
However here on my island we had our own version of Red Earth. The Red Earth Eco-Arts Festival 2009 at our Chaguaramas National Park. Its main highlight was the first peoples of Australia...more so North Australia...and I was super excited to meet the head of the dance/culture group-Descendance that came here to perform- Ronaldo! It fact after having the heart felt moment to ask him how he felt about the movie Australia and to learn that generally they were good with it...like no, it wasn't just Hollywoodized the facts in the movie were generally true. And then to get to share with him for a moment how affected I was by the movie to learn about how intuitive the Australian first peoples were with the land so much so that the grandfather and son could communicate through it...he seemed to be moved too by my recollection of his people's ways and shared with me not only the environment like the wind etc but that his people could become like animals too (or at least be very in tuned with them? You should see Descendance do the Kangaroo by the way)...so I thought of Shamanism in the Native American people's culture...also asked about how he felt about their culture(Native Americans)....as I'm soon to visit a certain cavernous place, where well the Native Americans have artwork all over the cave walls...and he said yes they are very similar...and then I took a picture to remember the moment and the conversation!:) For sure ancient Indian culture and religion is in itself an ode to nature as I said on my last blog post and on my Universal Collective Prayer (UCP) I often talk about it...you can check out this post about Hinduism's Ode to Water in the form of Mother Ganga...and as with the monkey business in Red Earth and Pouring Rain even monkeys are God! This weekend Fri 29 May to Sun 31 May 2009 is the Red Earth Eco Arts Festival...I know some are celebrating Indian Arrival Day on the island as well marked on 30 May every year...but hey half the population is of Indian origin we are all over the place in all walks of life we have arrived! :) Over 150 plus years now...so...instead I'm all excited about Red Earth! :) I know my ancestors would be proud as I'm hanging out with Dharti Mata herself along with some cool first people dancers flown in from Australia by the Australian embassy- Descendance! And since watching Hugh in the film Australia I've been wondering about this dreaming business so...so looking fwd! :) Really even more so than my ancestors or the Native Americans I find that the first people of Australia ...man they really have it going on with the Earth...she is not just Dharti Mata to them she is them and they her! Those people are the earth space they live in...there knowledge of their environment is so lived and breathed by them that they have developed an intuitiveness about them...I was so amazed to realise this while watching the film Australia...that is amazing! :)

Loved it! And no it wasn't just cause Hugh Jackman of my We Three Kings! fun and fame was in it! I loved it and unexpectedly so...because I just decided to go see it to meet up with some people and we figured it was the most passable thing on in cinema. I thought I was going to see before me a sweeping love saga unfold. And yes it was indeed a love story...but it was about Australia! I couldn't get the idea of 'dreaming' out of my head after I saw the film. It made me think about first peoples all around the world and how they really could have such a feel for the land...so much so that they become intuitive...it made me think of myself...I searched within...it made me realise that although I had never visited India I knew it because that was what Hinduism was...it was a tapestry of India...an ode to its rivers and valleys...its plants and flowers....and I feel the South Indians the Saivites were the ones who really were the first peoples of their they really knew the lady...it is why I celebrate that Hippy Master Shiv today! :)And it made me wonder of the land I now live in Trinidad. What do I know of it? Well it's first peoples...we have practically wiped them out and their voice here...well the Europeans did and we were the peoples they brought from another time when people still thought they could own each other...but what about now? It is almost impossible to gather much of the original peoples of Trinidad information...it is pretty much lost...but I could at least try to adapt the approach I know from Hinduism here in this land...and it was what I had been doing anyway...but Australia inspired me to keep on Dreaming..."
It is amazing how the universe unfolds but seems my wishes of Feb are all coming true because here I am about to be part of an Eco-Arts festival with first peoples from all over the world performing...including...that's right people from Australia! :)
So I'm head over heels...doing cartwheels if only I really could...excited about this event! I decided to volunteer at it cause then you get to be even so much more into it and closer to the workings of it I find...I actually enjoy volunteering so it is actually a pleasure and joy for me not a task...but yes a volunteer's day does tend to be long...and sometimes in the tropical heat we are having these days very hot! :)
So last weekend I went on the briefing for volunteers and it was the coolest thing to check out the sites that were going to be holding the events before hand!
-The Mystic House:This house is so coined cause when Merchant Ivory Productions were filming 'Mystic Masseur' the making of the V.S. Naipaul book Mystic Masseur into a movie. Well the production crew transported a house form the south of Trinidad to the Chaguaramas Nature park to do the filming. It was cool to me to be able to recognise when I looked at it...wait...it is the shop in the film! :)
-The Bamboo Cathedral: A protected area in the park since if people tamper with it...well we will loose the beloved cathedral that formed naturally with the bamboo. The area is made famous by Trinidadian artist Jean Michel Cazabon in his works and you would have no doubt seen it in his artwork if you are familiar with it and any Trinidadian would be subliminally even...as it is all over...and lots of video footage of it is aired over the years while I was growing up on national TV and pictures everywhere...
-The Dry River Bed: Well it is as the name says a dry river bed and the performers are going to be blessing the space and then Rocking the River bed!
-The Old American Wartime Tracking Station: Nuff said...but there is some cool star gazing going on up there tonight as part of the festival.
